This blog is part of a series about the catalogue used by The Technical Library. Blogs will include information about who can access the catalogue and how to search it.
Navigate to The Technical Library’s website – www.techlibrary.co.za and click on the Library Catalogue Link on the Home Page. The screen will prompt you for your User ID and submit, and then for your password and submit. See a previous blog to find out how become a member of The Technical Library and obtain login details.
An Advanced search allows up to four different fields within a catalogue record to be searched at the same time.
The fields that can be searched simultaneously are Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Series, Classmark or ISBN.
Example 1 Any books by Clem Sunter discussing his ‘fox’ theory:
Keyword fox = 56 hits which include authors named Fox
Author Sunter = 17 hits including all books and journal articles
Keyword fox plus Author Sunter = four books by Sunter all about the ‘fox’ theory.
Example 2 Any project management records that discuss specifically mega projects
Subject project management = 600 hits
Title mega = 69 hits
Subject project management plus Title mega = 10 hits
It may be necessary to do a Subject search (see a previous blog) to determine the correct subject headings used in the thesaurus linked to the catalogue. Knowledge of specific Classmarks, Series names and ISBN numbers would be needed to search in these specific fields.
