Luke’s day is varied and he divides his time between several different responsibilities.
Luke is the ‘go to’ person to request any books, journal articles, conferences or conference papers from The Technical Library collection. There are several ways that library clients are able to request items from the library.
- Via the catalogue. When clients ‘submit’ to reserve the items they have selected, the request is automatically sent to Luke’s email.
- Directly via email. Should you want to find out if the library has an article, conference paper or book, Luke can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org. Luke knows that many of his clients are based in different time zones globally and checks his mail box as late as 22h00!
- Directly via phone. Luke can be contacted during office hours on 011 498 7492.
Luke manages the Interlibrary Loan service. Should an item that is requested not be in the library collection, Luke will get back to a client and ask if they would like him to try and obtain it from another library in South Africa.
The Technical Library has a large collection of paper copy journals. Luke is responsible for arranging the binding of this collection. Journals are sent off-site and are bound in either annual or biannual volumes. This helps preserve the collection for the future and ensures that holdings are complete.
