This blog shows clients the benefits of being able to access the library catalogue and having a user ID.
The services offered by The Technical Library to all members are listed in detail on our website (www.techlibrary.co.za) What are the benefits of becoming a member and being able to have direct access to The Technical Library catalogue?
One of the main resources is the library catalogue. The interface is called Webview. Clients are able to search for information within this collection, which comprises books, conference proceedings, journal titles and journal articles. However, in order to request any items from the catalogues or submit a research request it will be necessary for you to have a user ID. All members are given a User ID on registration.
When you contact the library to request information, training or an item from our collection, the process will be streamlined as we will have your details on our system.
Library jargon definition of the week
SDI : This stands for Selective Dissemination of Information, a rather archaic term meaning keeping clients informed of new resources on specific topics. This can be done electronically via alerts on our databases (contact Katinka van Straaten) or manually when we are reading our hard copy journals (contact Katinka van Straaten).
This weekly blog is written promoting the products and services of The Technical Library. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.
